Colchagua Valley

In the tour to Colchagua Valley, a transfer-service will fetch the passengers and take them to Tobalaba Aerodrome. From that point, a plane will take off southwards. Once in the air, the plane will follow the course of the Maipo River, which originates the main watershed of the Metropolitan Region. During the flight, passengers can make out Rancagua City (capital of the VI Region), which is well known as the city of “huaso” culture, name originated in its rural tradition. Rancagua is the venue of the most important rodeo championship in Chile. The city’s main economical activities are: 1) Agriculture, that can be appreciated in the extensions of cultivated lands, and 2) Mining, based in the copper mine El Teniente activity. Passengers will be able to make out the chimneys of the mine and the Tranque Carén, place where the mine leaves its tailings. It is worthwhile to highlight that the flight will get close to the place where two survivors of the Uruguayan Air Force plane that came down in Los Andes in 1972 were found. The flight will continue to San Fernando or Santa Cruz aerodrome, where a transfer-service will pick-up the passengers and drive them to Viña Viu Manet. The winery is one of the main vineyards of the Colchagua Valley, with more than 250 hectares of plantations. Once in the Winery, a guide will take the guests on a tour by horse cart across the plantations and the winemaking facilities, ending with a tasting of a selection of wines of its own production. Later on , the guests will be able to enjoy a delicious lunch served with one of the “Reserva” wines of the house in the exclusive restaurant of the Winery. Finally, the guests will have the opportunity to buy some of the best Viu Manent wines at special prices in the private Wine shop. The transfer-service will take the visitors back to the airport to board the return flight to Santiago. The plane will fly over the Rapel Lake, which is the biggest artificial lake and water reservoir in Chile providing the water needed to operate the hydropower plant of the same name. Due to its proximity to Santiago City, this lake has become an exclusive place of holiday homes during the last decade. Along the way the city of Melipilla, located 60 km. southwest of Santiago, and capital of the province of the same name can be made out from the sky, as an important agricultural zone. Finally, the plane will land at Tobalaba Aerodrome, where a transfer-service will fetch the passengers and take them to their hotels or wherever they may indicate.
